Setting up a blog for an organization

I need to know how to set up a blog for an organization that is separate from myself. This blog should have no relationship to me or my blog as it will be handed over to someone else to maintain sometime in the future.

Open a new account using the email of the person that will take over the blog – have that account add you to the blog as an Admin – then you can change themes etc and set the site up – when you are done they can delete you from the blog or downgrade you to Editor if they still want you to help with editing but not changing themes etc.

By having the blog set up with their account that has them with the API key if their email goes away and they need to prove ownership (they do want to print and save the email with the API key)

That saves you transferring the blog to them when it is set up and ready to go – but blog ownership can be transferred to another account if you want to set up the blog then transfer it – you do do want to make sure that their email is one that will be around for a long time

Because I don’t know who will be taking over and because I intend for the site to send email, I created a Gmail account for the site. When I pass off maintenance duties to someone else, I can just give them the Gmail account at that time. Do you see any problems in doing that? Do you see any problems in setting up the site as a private site until I get the bugs out of it, then to pay WordPress the $18 fee for a domain name and make it public at that time?

Setting up a Gmail account and giving the email account and log-in info to the person receiving the site should work fine – please make sure you print out the email with the API key you received when you set up the account – that is so they can prove ownership should there be a problem in the future.

Setting up the site as Private while you work on the way the site looks and works is fine.

Buying and mapping the domain name just before you make the site public is OK – but keep in mind that someone else could grab the domain name you want – so getting the domain name even if you don’t map it would I think be prudent.

Keep in mind that it takes 4 to 6 weeks for a new site to be indexed by search engines and every time you publish a Post your site calls up the search engines to say “new content take a look” – so waiting to publish the Posts after the site is public would help your search engine status
