setting up a business account
-
Hello
I want to set up a WordPress Business account, but can’t seem to find customer support re. a query I have about transferring my current site from wordpress.org. I have a current domain I want to transfer, but I also have a redirect URL – which one should I include?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks. -
Hi ulspecoll,
Hi there,
You have two options for using a domain registered elsewhere on a site hosted on WordPress.com:
Domain mapping which allows you to host your site with us and keep
your domain at your current registrar (bluehost/siteground/etc).
Read more about how that works:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/Or,
If you’d like everything to be managed at one place, then go for domain transfer. That means we’ll become your registrar. We’ll handle all future renewals of your domain and plan for your WordPress.com site. Everything is managed and paid on your WordPress.com account.
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/In order to do either of them you’ll need a plan that you can have a look here:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/Have a look at this thread to know more about importing your website to WordPress.com.
Please come back here if you have more questions.
Cheers. -
Hi @ulspecoll,
@nomadicpulse has already explained what options you have to use a custom domain on WordPress.com. I’m not sure about the redirect you mentioned. Do you have a redirect set up currently on your domain?
What exactly would you like to achieve? -
Hi staff-mckluskey, and many thanks @nomadicpulse for your reply,
I run a blog, set up on wordpress.org, which is currently hosted on our current registrar (which has a rather long and complicated URL) and which redirects to a more human-readable URL (which is the one I share publicly).
When I select the option to sign up for a wordpress.com ‘business’ plan, it asks me to put in the URL of my domain, and I’m just unsure whether I should put in the actual URL of where it’s hosted, or the URL I want the site to sit on (i.e. my human-readable one).
I’ve used wordpress.org for a while, with this and other blogs, but am completely new to setting up/transferring domains, and working with wordpress.com, so am starting from the very beginning.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi –
WordPress.com is going to take over as your hosting provider. So, you’ll use the domain that you want visitors to see in their browsers with sign up. Let me know if you have any other questions about this.
