Setting Up A Chinese Version Of An English Language Website

    Hello,
My client has an English language website with a .hk domain and has realised that a large proportion of their visitors are Chinese speakers. We now want to set up exactly the same look and feel website in the same them which is specifically written for a Chinese audience – not a translation.
It looks like a massive amount of work to me! I am struggling to think it through.
Can you suggest the process and effect ways of duplicating the mother site which our Chinese web support person can then translate please?
    Thankyou for any assistance.
    Regards
    Neil

    Hi there!

Sorry about that! Your posts got caught in our automatic spam detector.

Here’s a guide we have about creating multi-lingual sites:

    Set Up a Multilingual Site

If you’re sending the site to a translator, then you might just want to do a clean export and import of your content. You’ll need to manually set up the theme again though.

Let me know if I can help further!

    Hello Shawna,
Thankyou. You don’t say how I avoid getting trapped in the spam detector.
I think my client will go the route in option 3 which is having a chinese sub-domain and using the original template again. Can you recommend the easiest, most effective way of duplicating the ‘mother’ site files to the new please?
Again – Thankyou for your help

I’m not quite sure what’s catching you in the filter right now. Usually this happens when a user uses a lot of links, but that’s obviously not what’s happening to you.

The Happiness Engineers who work in the public forums (including me) check the spam filter daily to find anyone who’s erroneously gotten caught, so we’ll be able to fish you out if it keeps happening. :)

You can export your content following these steps:

    Export Your Website’s Content

Then in your new site you can import that file:

    Import a Website
