Setting up a gallery in a new Blog with Photograph theme
-
I am a newcomer to WordPress – like it very much. I have been struggling to set up a gallery per the description in the Photograph Theme Showcase:
Setting up your gallery page
The demo gallery page is also just a custom Page Template, which means setting up your showcase is as easy as:
1) Adding a new empty page named “Gallery” (or whatever you want to name your gallery page) and choose the “Gallery” page template.
2) Add your new page to your menu under Appearance → Menus. This fails everytime with the Photograph theme. I get a message that
I haven’t set up a gallery and need to send at least one post
– this is contrary to the instructions, but I did it and at least got something working.
The only way I can get anything to work is by adding a post, selecting “gallery” and uploading images from the post. But this then also sends them to the blog aswell.
Any help would be most appreciated. I would like a gallery as advertised, without sending to the blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey James,
This is for a specific template, but it may help.

Thanks for your prompt response.
I tried “Creating your Gallery Page” – several times. I get a message saying ‘I need to setup a gallery’, ipmying that one hasn’t been created. I repeated the instructions several times without success. Same message every time.
I figured out the “Creating your Individual Galleries” myself from the above error message, which said that I need to make at least one post (note add a post, not add a page). Problem with this approach is that it ‘contaminates the Blog’, by adding the photos in it.
Cannot see what I am missing. Have tried several times for at least 2 hours, which gets me around the menus I suppose. Would like to be able to use a gallery as a page. Any chance of a skype and share screen? I am sure it is dead simple or something is missing from the description. My skype id is bryn.jenkins.
Thanks, Bryn

Your theme is a premium theme and read-access to the premium themes forum is now open to all users so you can search to see if your question has been previously asked and answered there. The premium theme forums are at http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/ with separate sections for each theme.
If you are not successful when searching there is a link for the specific Premium Theme support forum for your theme under Appearance -> Themes in your blog’s Dashboard, but do note that the premium theme must be active and you must be signed in as the user who purchased it in order to see it and post to it.
All support documentation for WordPress.com bloggers is at this link http://en.support.wordpress.com The results produced by the searchbox there are from both the support docs and from forum threads.
On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the learn wordpress.com tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com
Best wishes with your blog.

I am using the Photography Theme from Theme Foundry ($68).
Th eproblem appears to be with appearance->menus. I create the menu and add the gallery, save. I then add images to the gallery page I just created and when I click on the Gallery page I get ‘Gallery isn’t set up, you need to make at least one post’.
Hmmm. Been looping for a couple of hours on this.

Yanni3003, sorry I should have said I am using the gallery template. I follow theinstruictions you sent me by the letter.
Worked in tech support for a while so this isn’t an RTFM problem. I am following the instructions. It is so basic though, I can’t believe it is a bug. I think I must be missing a step. God knows what it is though.

I had a hard time setting it up as well until I found the above link.
Are you trying to create something like mine: http://ioannisbatsiosphotography.com/
I sent you a request on skype.

Yes that’s exactly what I am trying to create, but with pages not posts to avoid filling up the blog.
I will accept your Skype invite. Your support is much appreciated.

@jameslewisjenkins
Support from both Staff and the designer of your Photography theme is provided in this premium theme forum http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/photography/ -

Thanks, I think we agree that the documentation doesn’t allow gallery as pages as described.
I’ll stick with posts for now.
Timethief, thank you for your help. I will read the documentation (again). I am sure there is something wrong though.

@jameslewisjenkins
I’m not referring you to documentation. I’m posting the link to the specific forum for the theme you purchased, as what came with your purchase was support from the theme designer. http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/photography/ -
