Setting up a menu in the Modern News theme
-
Hi, I purchased the Modern News theme for daniellaalpher.wordpress.com. I don’t understand how to set up the primary and secondary menus. I’ve been on your forums, I realize this happens under Appearance -> Menus but it’s still not happening for me. I’ve created menus, I’ve selected stuff… It’s very confusing. Do you have a “for dummies” detailed breakdown of how to do this?
Blog url: http://daniellaalpher.wordpress.com/The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In this case, I recommend contacting the developer directly for help: http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/modern-news
For future reference, there will be a link for the specific Premium Theme support forum under Appearance -> Themes in your blog’s Dashboard, but the theme needs to be active and you need to be signed in as the user who purchased it in order to see it.
-
Is that link for Premium Theme support already in place? My blog has now completely disappeared. I worked on it this morning (even figured out part of the Menu functionality) and wrote a post but now it’s just gone there’s an empty template there instead…
-
Yes, that link is accessible via Appearance -> Themes in your blog’s Dashboard.
As for http://daniellaalpher.wordpress.com/ the domain that you mapped to it, http://www.daniellaalpher.com/ , is being directed to a hosting provider elsewhere.
If you still want to use that domain with your WordPress.com blog, you need to change its nameservers to:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM -

Hi again, I changed the nameservers yesterday and waited. This morning I saw my blog back and was very happy. Now it’s gone again… Any idea why this would happen?
-
http://daniellaalpher.com/ appears to be working just fine.
When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors”. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records. Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.
-
Why do you think it appears to be working fine? I’m not getting an error message I’m getting a “canned” WordPress blog template instead of the one I paid for. It says “hello world” and has a post from June 27th… Not the post I edited two days ago and not my new premium template. My content is gone, my template is gone…
-
This is what I see: http://cl.ly/image/341D2P3Z193K
What you’re seeing is the domain still pointed to the old location.
As mentioned above, it can take up to 72 hours (though usually less) for the change in domain direction to propagate to your ISP. We have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records.

Hi again, is there any way to actually speak with someone from WordPress Support? I spent $75 on a template and another $13 for domain mapping, it doesn’t seem to me like an unreasonable request. I’ve been struggling since I made these purchases. Other providers have online chat services to help. If I can’t get it to work this week I will want to cancel my order, I need this blog to work.
-
Responding to your link with the image: that’s not what I’m seeing. I saw it this morning but not now. Why would it have propagated to my ISP this morning but not now?
-
I am from WordPress support, and what you are seeing is entirely normal and not within our control.
Most ISPs have multiple DNS caches, and they don’t always refresh at the same time. So, while a domain change is propagating, it is possible that you will see it at both locations depending on which DNS cache your ISP connects you to, and when that cache was last updated.
Clearing your computer’s local DNS cache may help, but it rarely works. Regardless, it’s worth a shot: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/68
If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to wait for your ISP to refresh all of their DNS caches.
-
I guess I’ll wait, I have no choice. It’s not there now. Like I said if it’s not there by tomorrow I will want to cancel my orders.
My issues aren’t with you personally, you have been very helpful and I am grateful for your attention. But WordPress as a company is being neglectful by not offering live support. I wouldn’t have changed the nameserver away from WordPress if I’d had someone I could consult with in real time. Even Google offers liver support to paying customers.

Hi again, the site seems stable today and I’m able to work on it.
New question: I’m still experimenting with the Site Title but it spreads out on two lines when I try calling it Daniella Alpher. Is there any way for me to either reduce the font size, or spread out wide enough to make it work in one line?

Hi again, I have a new question. I want to use a contact form and see there’s a good plugin (contact form 7) but I don’t see “plugins” in my menu on the left… Where is it?
