Setting up a menu in the Modern News theme

In order to host your email at an external provider, you’ll need to include an MX record in your Custom DNS here.
Currently, you only have an A record, which isn’t sufficient.
Please try contacting BlueHost, and let them know you’re trying to use them to host your custom domain email, and that you’re using an external DNS service (WordPress.com’s DNS).
If you indicate that you’re using our name servers, and want to configure your DNS here so that it works with BlueHost’s email service, they should be able to provide you with the necessary records, which should consist of either:
– An MX record that points to their mail servers, OR
– An MX record that points to a subdomain of yours, and an A/CNAME record that maps your subdomain to their mail servers
If you’d prefer to use GoDaddy’s email hosting service, we do have the necessary records you’d need to use for that to work.

I’ve contacted Bluehost several times, you keep repeating the same instructions as if I haven’t told them what I need. I have. I don’t prefer GoDaddy but I’ll transfer the domain there if there is no way to make this work with Bluehost. However I tested the email account from my Outlooks – d at daniellaalpher.com and it seems to work. At least to me it looks like it works. Can you check with a supervisor on this? It would be good to have confirmation from WordPress.

At https://daniellaalpher.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=domain-options&action=dnsedit&domain=daniellaalpher.com you still haven’t saved the MX record.

I’m sorry for the frustration, but unfortunately there’s not much we can do, if we’re not able to get the necessary MX records from BlueHost.
Please feel free to have them email me directly at chris [at] automattic.com, so that we can get this sorted out for you. :-)

The email’s not going out now.
I will switch the domain to GoDaddy. The site will probably go down for several days in between. I don’t know why this has to be so complicated I regret the day I decided to buy this template and use WordPress for my site.
-
Sorry for the trouble! Do you have a different email account that you could contact us from, like Gmail, Yahoo, etc?
-
-
Ok, please contact Chris through your currently functioning email, and he’ll help you out with this.
Sorry again for the trouble!

Many of our users, including myself, have had great experience with Google Apps, and we have full instructions on using it to host your custom domain email:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/add-email/
That would be my recommendation.
If you want to use GoDaddy for your email, you can sign up for email hosting through them, and follow these instructions:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/add-email/
I’m sorry for the frustration, but we can’t offer support for BlueHost’s email hosting.
Let me know if there’s anything else we can assist with! :-)

I’m assuming Google Apps would lead to me using my Gmail account instead of Outlook, yes? I want to be able to provide people with an @daniellaalpher.com email account.
-
You can use Outlook or any other email client with Google Apps.
First, you’ll need to follow these steps to set up your Google Apps account:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/add-email/Then, you can configure Outlook by following this documentation which is on the Google Apps site:
http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=77689
I understand that you want to provide people with an @daniellaalpher.com email address — this is possible with Google Apps.

Okay I’ll give it a try before giving up and moving to GoDaddy. I’ve had enough of this for one day but will continue tomorrow and let you know. Thank you.

Hi, a few questions about using my email via Google Apps, these all came up during the setup:
1. How do I want to route my email? Is it through Google servers, or another server?
2. I”m used to managing multiple POP email accounts in Outlook. Now when I start Outlook I have an option between Google and Outlook (see http://daniellaalpher.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/a.jpg for a screenshot). If pick Outlook then I don’t see Google Apps. If I pick Google I get this error message http://daniellaalpher.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/b.jpg. Why? Is there no way for me to continue managing my email accounts from one place? Thanks, Daniella

We can’t provide support for Google Apps, but Google does offer free support for their services, so I recommend contacting them about this.
-
I’m going to stick to Google because it’s free, GoDaddy would charge a couple of dollars a month for the email account. Thanks for all your help.
