Setting up a payment gateway with a travel blog
-
I am in the process of building a travel site. The costs are getting very high if I have someone else involved. Everyone is telling me that the best way to keep prices low is to build one on WordPress. Does anyone have any experience building a travelers website? I’d like to hear from you.

Howdy –
There are certainly many items that need consideration when starting a new online presence. Fortunately, on WordPress.com our team has your back. We have built many features in to our product which save you time, hassle, and money. Plus, there’s a team (Hi!) of real human beings that want to see you succeed.
This means that we handle all the back end details of the site. Things like back ups, updates, security, spam, seo, ssl, mobile optimization, top notch hosting specs, and sorting out any errors or bugs that pop up along the way. When you use a different hosting provider then all of those details fall on to you – so instead of being able to focus on content you spend a ton of time and frustration fixing these sort of issues.
Can you tell me more about the payment gateway. Are you trying to sell merchandise for the blog or have some kind of store? Or do you simply want to take donations? Knowing more about this will help us get better aligned with the right plan for this project.
I’d suggest starting out on the personal plan. It will allow you to register a custom domain and get things going. Then, in a few months, re evaluate if upgrading further is worth it for the stage of your journey. When you upgrade between plans only the difference of the 2 is charged. This allows you to upgrade when it makes sense for the project rather than rely on a calendar date.
Keep writing to us as you come up with questions. We stick close by and are always happy to help. Here are some other resources to help you get started.
