setting up a simple website

  I am trying to set up a simple website to advertise my art workshops, share ideas and tips and a gallery of my work. I would like to share it on Facebook and contact my mailout list which I am thinking would be the subscribe for news. I am not familiar with the terminology used such as tags or categories etc. I have had several blogs in the past but looking more for advertising workshops that is simple to upgrade, I have noticed a lot of artists use WordPress. Help!

  Hello –

  I’ll be happy to help. You can create this site for free with WordPress.com. Have you picked out a theme already? If not, check out our Theme Showcase. Photography based themes tend to work great for art, or any blog that is going to feature images.

  You can set up Publicize to share your posts automatically on your social media accounts.

  Thank you for your offer of help. I have had a look at the themes and thought the Motif theme might be suitable.What I was looking for was the following links on the home page
  Home. Workshops News blog Gallery. Contact
  With a side bar listing Search, a logo, Subscribe for news and upcoming workshops.
  Do you think Motif would allow for these.

  Hi again –

  You can get started with creating the pages you’ll want linked in your menu. As you test out different themes the menu will cross over and you’ll be able to see how it looks.

  Go to Pages > New and create a separate page for each (Home, Wordshops, Blog, Gallery, Contact)

  Now, with the Motif Theme, your widgets space is in the footer and not a sidebar. See the setup instructions here: https://wordpress.com/themes/motif and demo site https://motifdemo.wordpress.com/

  Is that something you can work with?

  Sorry for delay in getting back, had a workshop. I have followed your last directions. How do I find the website, I can only see the setup page.

  have gone to the link, but it looks more like just a blog and I was wanting a website to advertise my workshops and gallery to show my art. Have I chosen the wrong theme?

  It also seems very disjointed and shows the set up text, do I need to delete them?

  A photography inspired theme would also work well if you are planning to display art work: https://wordpress.com/themes/search/photography/
