Setting up a simple WordPress site using a godaddy domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I want to set up a simple website using a domain name I purchased with Godaddy. I can’t figure out how to do this, I’m going round in circles. Do I need to map it? I don’t want to transfer the domain name over, just to create the website on WordPress. Thank you.

    Hey There!

Mapping the domain with a outside party will always be more difficult. I personally would recommend pointing the Name Servers to WordPress.com. This will allow you to manage all the DNS settings inside your WordPress.com account.

The support article below can walk you through step by step to map the domain.

Hello, thank you for your help. As in server, do you mean a host? Like the companies that you pay every month to host it? I’m a real novice! I’ll have a look at that article. Thanks again.

  • @lauraannebec, for your site to be online, you will need to host it somewhere. If you create it here, it will be hosted on WordPress.com.

Now, you can keep your site here for free, but some features require a paid plan. One of those features is the custom domain. To be able to connect a custom domain to a WordPress.com site, you’d need to upgrade it to one of our paid plans. You can read more about those here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/.

Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.
