Setting up a site for photography
-
I’m trying to set up a photography website and had some questions. I need to know what’s possible with the platform.
Things I require:
Create a gallery page with multiple galleries listed. Possible to have sub-galleries within under different gallery categories/albums. Each would need to be broken up as by location, subject, etc. So there would be several galleries/albums.
Add watermarks if I wish to photos.
Have the option to buy any photo on site, where possibly it shows a ‘buy’ icon when you hover over it.
The option to click for a larger photo view.
For e-commerce, the option to use different fulfillment methods. Either something like Printify or Pixels, or self-fulfillment. I’m not sure what is the best option. I hope to offer the option for a fulfillment center in the customer’s country if possible, or if the company used has fulfillment centers in multiple countries, that would be best.
I need to have an Instagram feed or the option to create a gallery fed by a social media management system, that can post to multiple places at once. Thus posting to the gallery set up for IG photos on my WordPress site, as well as IG itself, and whatever other social media I wish.
I understand that an actual IG feed might not allow for clicking to purchase photos. Is there any way to overcome this, or would the gallery set up to have IG photos posted to it be the best option? Within the site itself, they should have the click to purchase option. If that is even an option. I haven’t determined that yet. Thus, why I am asking.
I would also be interested in embedding and showing videos. Is it possible to store videos on-site, or would they need to be linked from outside?
I believe those are all the questions I have at this time. Hopefully, there are answers out there. Simply searching the web hasn’t been very productive. There’s far too much information out there, and often it isn’t specific to what I need.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

The commerce plan will include some of those functions and you can probably find a Theme in the Store section that would be suitable for your photography.
If you play around with the Block editor enough I’m sure you can find a way to create the perfect site. Although it may be easier to pay someone to make it for you.
Choose the Commerce plan for everything you need to create a powerful, profitable website to sell products and services. This guide explains what’s included in the WordPress.com Commerce plan. Hi there!
I will be happy to advise.
Gallery page:
We have several options for a gallery, they do have a lightbox feature:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/gallery-block/
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/tiled-gallery-block/
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/slideshow-block/
You can arrange them based on tags and categories, place them in the navigation, create a page with links or buttons to all galleries.Watermarking:
Watermarking can be done on your end but a plugin could be used for that too. It is supported by plugins like NextGEN Gallery. You can set up watermarks on your images to protect your photography work.E-commerce buy option:
WooCommerce is a robust e-commerce platform that integrates smoothly with WordPress. You can set up products (both physical and digital) and allow customers to purchase directly from your site.Fulfillment options:
WooCommerce supports multiple shipping options and integrates with many fulfillment services. WooCommerce also provides the necessary tools for you to manage self-fulfillment.Instagram feed:
Many plugins on WordPress, such as Instagram Feed, can help you display a live feed of your Instagram posts on your website. In terms of posting to multiple places at once, tools like HootSuite might be beneficial.Instagram ‘buy’ feature:
Instagram does not currently allow a ‘buy’ button directly from your feed on their platform. However, you may have that functionality on the IG photos displayed on your WordPress site.Videos:
Yes, WordPress allows you to embed videos directly on your site. You can either upload them directly to your WordPress site or embed them from a third-party video hosting site like YouTube or Vimeo.Based on your requirements Business plan would be suitable but if you are going to sell internationally, the Commerce plan may be cheaper because it includes a lot of extra tools that are much more expensive if paid individually.
