Setting up a theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I have watched the tutorial on changing my theme. I am not getting on my laptop the screens that the tutorial says. For example, hovering over Apostrophe 2, my current theme does not give me a vision of what the theme looks like on my site. In fact, although my current theme is identified as Apostrophe 2, that is not what shows up on my screen at all. Nevermind the fact that I do not arrive anyplace that says that I am previewing or in any mode that allows me to experie=ment or play with appearance. What am I doing wrong?

  • Hi there,

What tutorial did you watch? Most “WordPress” tutorials you’ll find online refer to the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org, not to WordPress.com.

To change a theme, go to My Site ->Themes. That will take you to https://wordpress.com/themes/yaffatova.wordpress.com

There you can search all the themes available.

Click on the three dots … that appears bottom-right on the theme thumbnail, and you’ll have the options to preview the theme, which will load the theme’s demo page, or the Try and Customize option, which will open your site’s Customizer with that theme applied to the preview. There you can then test out the theme on your actual site without activating it – it will only activate if you click the Publish button in the Customizer.

You can find more information on switching themes here:
