Setting up a website
-
I’m looking at setting up a domain with WordPress, and eventually I want to have an e-commerce site. In the meantime, I want to start a blog. Down the road, when I’m ready to launch an ecommerce domain, will I be able to switch from just a blog to ecommerce and keep the same domain name?
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there,
Yes that is actually something that happens pretty often with sites we host, so for now it’s a great idea to get started with a free site so you can get an initial site setup and focus on blogging and building an audience. If you’re new to WordPress, a great place to start is the free webinars here, we have a few dedicated to blogging and getting started with a new site: https://wordpress.com/webinars/
As things evolve you can add more functionality to your site by upgrading (to include ecommerce functionality, for example) and you can see we have a few options to choose from here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
As you upgrade your site does not change (no need to migrate or switch URLs) but instead it stays the same but gains new functionality and options as you grow. I think you have your current game plan right though, it makes plenty of sense to start out simply and then add functionality as it makes business sense.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
