Hi there. Im new to blogging and only in the stting up phase. I registered my domain with a provider I already use and wanted to beging installing WordPress to get my blog underway. However my understanding was WordPress was free. However I keep getting directed to ‘Map’ my current domain and charged for this? Which part of WordPress is free? Should I have done everything through WordPress in order to avail of this ‘Free’ service?

Domain is just a name for your blog. You also need hosting – a place where the blog will be physically stored.
If you choose to use WordPress.COM – hosting will be free, .wordpress.com domain will be free, but if you choose to add your own domain, you’ll need to pay for it.
If you choose to use WordPress.ORG – you’ll be able to use the WordPress part (software) for free, but you’ll need to find someone to host your site anyway. For which you’ll most likely need to pay.
