Setting up domain
-
Hello, I have recently purchased a domain through GoDaddy which I thought I could transfer over to WordPress with an IP address. However, when I tried it is automatically adding my domain .wordpress.com. It’s also saying that I must pay for a subscription in order to remove the WordPress from my domain name. Why is this happening? If I have paid for my domain already why should I be paying again? Can someone walk me through this process as I am totally confused? Thank you!

Hi, typically you’ll pay for domains and hosting separately.
In our case, we have .wordpress.com addresses available with our free hosted solution, but if you would like to add a custom domain, we have paid plans for that. Our paid service includes SSL, direct WordPress support, maintenance, security, and many other features that tend to cost extra with other providers. These paid plans help us cover staffing to maintain all of that, and to keep free sites free.
So you would need at least a Personal Plan to use your domain here. If you just registered it, I’d recommend using the domain mapping option:
