Setting up email account from GoDaddy
-
Hello,
I have bought a domain name through GoDaddy as well as an email account using this domain name ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). GoDaddy is asking me to verify that I own this domain name which is mapped to my WordPress blog. I called their client support who assured me I have to do this on wordpress’ website.
https://productivity.godaddy.com/#/externaldomain/504281I tried to create a TXT Record in the my domains section but the ‘Edit’ button dowsnt seem to work.
https://wordpress.com/#/my-domains/Is there an alternate way I can create a TXT record and get to use the email account I bought?
Regards,
Antoine

Hi Antoine!
When I visit your My Domains page here, I’m able to use the Edit Domain button to add domain records:
https://aantoinebouvet.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
Could you try this one more time using the instructions here?

Thanks for your quick reply Jeremey.
I added the four record (2 MX and two CNAME) as per the instructions you sent about 9 hours ago. There were already two MX and one CNAME that I didnt not delete.
So far no luck, when I try on GoDaddy’s website, I still can’t verify my email.
Their website says I should create a TXT record as well, should I do that too?
Thanks,

Hi Antoine,
I don’t believe a TXT record will be necessary. However, we’ll want to remove the unnecessary MX records. One variation is specific to European users. Can you let me know if you’re in Europe so I can know which one to remove?
-
I am in Europe indeed, should I remove the ones not listed in the article you sent me (under the ‘GoDaddy users in Europe’ tittle)?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-godaddy-email/
Also should I remove the extra CNAME I have?
-
I made two adjustments to your domain records:
- I removed the two extra MX records (setup for non-European users)
- I adjusted the priority for the smtp record to “0” matching the instructions here
The CNAME records are all correct so we’ll want to leave those in place. Can you let me know if your email address does not start working within the next 12 hours or so?

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks a lot for doing this, I will check in a few hours on GoDaddy if they manage to verify my domain ownership and set my mail destination to thewakeupcall.co.uk
Hopefully I will manage to send emails with my domain name by Monday (the date I plan to publicise my blog to a wider group of people).
