Setting up email MX DNS records
-
I have have a domain registered with someone other than WordPress. At first, the domain would not map correctly to my WordPress site, but I have managed to correctly map the DNS records now.
The problem is the email.
The MX records my I was given from my host, do not match the format explained in the WordPress support pages.
Does anybody understand this protocol who can help me?
The records I have been given are in the form:
12.123.123.456 mta1.examplehost.com
12.123.123.456 mta2.examplehost.com
12.123.123.456 smtp.examplehost.comAny ideas?
Do I need more info from the domain host?
Thanks in advance…
Andy

Hi there – thanks for this. Would you mind asking your email provider for the information in our required format as I’m unable to determine the correct records based on this information. You could try sending them these samples:
Format
MX <pref> <host>
TXT <text>
CNAME <subdomain> <host>
A <subdomain> <IP>
SRV <_service._protocol> <priority> <weight> <port> <domain>Sample records
MX 10 MAIL1.EXAMPLE.COM.
MX 20 MAIL2.EXAMPLE.COM.
TXT v=spf1 include:mail.example.com ~all
CNAME autodiscover EXCHANGE.EXAMPLE.COM.
A webmail 1.2.3.4
SRV _xmpp-client._tcp 10 10 5269 example.com.
