Setting up file/document website

Ok so to keep it short an concise…

I know exactly what I want and how I want it to be setup I’m just having difficulty finding the correct ‘label’ and ‘terminology’ to describe such an ‘idea’ so with all your help maybe I can find out what I need.

I want a website… that is not really a website, here is the idea. Its not a blog, but simply but it – an article website, file database.

I don’t know the ‘internet’ term for it, but I want to write articles and I want them to be on my own website that has complete public access and also has a way for others to write articles.

Now I don’t want feeds, advertisements, media, artwork or any of that nonsense, I want an extremely simple layout. Think of it like this, a blank website with a search bar at the top to look for an article – almost exactly like a public record ‘website’… that is all I want – an extremely simple way of making my articles publicly viewable.

With this in mind, does anyone know what I’m looking for? When attempting to use a website builder none of them have the capability to accommodate my ‘simple’ and ‘bone dry’ envision. A blog layout doesn’t really suit as I want a vast amount of articles to me available in future with immediate accessibility (up to thousands of articles/records) without the nonsense of organizing blogs by date.

So with all this in mind, thank you to all those whom have read this in the full, I greatly appreciate your time and value it very much.

For clarity, I’ll add that a grid layout of the documents would be perfect.
