Setting up links within my own blog
-
I want to set up a link in the text of my new post, leading to an item on another page of my own blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can jump to different sections of a page by using page jumps:

Thanks geoffreyshilling, very kind of you. Unfortunately though, I cannot work out how to make the target text invisible—it says you can but forgets to say how. In the target page I have put:
<div id=”Colossians3.14-15″>Colossians3.14-15</div> as I assumed that the div, replacing the p at each end would give me the invisible marker. It is not invisible. Neither does it work as a target—I simply get a new, empty page. :o(
The link I’m trying to reach is:
https://wordpress.com/page/themousecompanion.wordpress.com/842/#Colossians3.14-15 -
I wonder if it’s the link, as you will only be able to view links using “https://wordpress.com/page/themousecompanion.wordpress.com” if you are logged in and you have access; I am taken to a login page when I click the link. Instead of having the link be this:
https://wordpress.com/page/themousecompanion.wordpress.com/842/#Colossians3.14-15What if you try with a link such as this:
https://themousecompanion.wordpress.com/colossians-notes/#Colossians3.14-15I was able to create a test link to that page and it worked for me. Please let me know if that doesn’t work.

Thanks for that — I cut and paste it as you formatted it and it worked which is great but I don’t know why :o)
I also played about with the target marker to get it to disappear:
<p id=”Colossians3.14-15″>14 Over all these add love, which is the binding agent of perfection,</p>
seems to have done the trick—again I’m not quite sure why so I may have trouble pulling the same trick again. Really appreciate your help though.

The basic format of the ID tag is:
<p id="Colossians3.14-15">This is where you write about your topic.</p>Colossians3.14-15: This is how you will reference your link to this location. For example, your link would be something like this:
<a href="https://themousecompanion.wordpress.com/colossians-notes/#Colossians3.14-15">Read more about Colossians3.14-15</a>When someone clicks this link, it will take them to that ID, which is a paragraph tag called “Colossians3.14-15” in your case.
This is where you write about your topic.: This is the content you will be linking to. This text doesn’t have any effect on your link and can be whatever you want, though it will be visible.
I don’t know if that will make any more sense or not. Do you have any questions about a specific part of the process? I will try to answer them more thoroughly.
If you do have any problems with the next one, please let me know and I will be happy to walk you through it.

Many thanks for that—I think I’ve got it now, bit tricky for non-programmer :o) I’ve saved your explanation to my files for future reference, so hopefully next time it will be a breeze.
Bless you, Geoff -
You’re welcome! It can take some getting used to, but the more you do it the easier it becomes. I’m confident you can get it next time, but if not, you know where to ask :)
