Setting up my new site

I am new to wordpress and would like to see if it is possible to create a website for my business. We are not looking to create a blog (look or feel) but a retail site where buyers can come shop and or view our merchandise.
Is this possible to achieve with the settings I have set up for our site or is it necessary to upgrade to the pro version?
Also, is wordpres.org a program that only uses code to set up a website?

WordPress.com is not suitable for a real ecommerce site, and there’s no upgrade that will make it so. Your options are to remain here and find a host for the ecommerce part of your site and link to it from a Custom Menu on your WP.com site, or to create a new site on an independent host using software from WordPress.ORG instead. That makes ecommerce easy.
