Setting up new authors

I sent invitations to our board members to become “authors” on our nonprofit’s blog. One board member had no trouble accepting the invitation, as she regularly blogs using WordPress.

Another board member (who is pretty tech savvy – not a newbie) wrote me the following:

“I cannot register and/or login to WordPress. I have given up because I just cannot keep on trying over and over again with no results. I did try. I must have already registered because they already have a “[my name]” but none of the passwords I tried worked, etc. and they don’t recognize my email address.”

I know from the general support information that she can have only one profile per email address. But it’s not recognizing her email address. Does anyone know what’s going on?

    Thanks so much!

I’m so sorry that is happening. It frustrating and annoying to be sure. I have flagged this thread for Staff attention.

Thank you, timethief. We really want our “social experiment” with board interaction <=> volunteers and interested students/professors to be successful.

What’s the email address of the person who is having trouble signing up for WordPress.com? (If you post it in this thread, only Happiness Engineers will be able to see it and not other forum visitors.) I will be happy to look up if we already have a user with this email address in our system.

User name hmcconnell was what bounced back as already used, but without an email address attached.

I’m nervous about doing this. Has this thread become protected?

The username hmcconnell was created in January 2012, under a different email address, which was never changed. The email address that you reference above (not visible to other site visitors – you can confirm this by viewing this forum thread while logged out) is not in our system, though. So it appears that someone else registered that username, so that’s why the user cannot register it and cannot reset the password either – because the username is not theirs.

So I would recommend that you resend the invite, and that the user try again, picking a different username for registration. Please let me know if this resolves the issue, I’ll be happy to continue troubleshooting this with you!

Thank you! I have passed the information along.
