Setting up Shareaholic
-
Hi
Ok, I went onto Shareaholic and chose my bookmarking sites. Then I downloaded it, but I don’t know what to do with it now to put it on my blog.
Can anyone help please? Is there something you need to do in dashboard to set it up? I couldn’t see it lsited on the widgets page.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We can only use widgets that do not contain restricted coded. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
There are no social bookmarking programs we can use on wordpress.com blogs that make the bookmarks appear on every post. This is because we cannot access templates and edit them.
There are different methods of social bookmarking we can use on wordpress.com blogs. You will find them contained within this post. >

But I thought shareaholic was something you could use on wp.com? There’s a feature about it on the support pages. I’m confused..

I’m so sorry but I haven’t heard of it until now and you didn’t mention “app”. Anyhoo the support forum is here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/apps Support forum here >

Presumably Shareaholic has an FAQ or something on their site; maybe they can give you some tips? I’ve never heard of it either.

No, like a lot of these widget/add on sites, they seem to assume that you know what you’re doing!
The tips in your article were useful though TF, I will choose one of those strips of code and just copy and paste it each time I post, should work just the same I guess.
Thanks

Thanks so much for that clarification.

@joolsstone
The bookmarking options take only moments to do. You provide the title of your post and the short link, select the buttons you want & style, click the button to generate the code. Copy and paste the code into the HTML editor at the end of your post and click publish.
Happy blogging. :) -
Would you like to use Addthis or Addtoany instead? Both of them work for wordpress.com and you can add the Sharing button in one click!
Addtoany also offers “email a friend” option.

@ sanjidas Thanks for the tip about addthis, but I couldn’t work out how to drag it to the toolbar, I use Opera I don”t know if that’s why.
@shareaholic Thanks also for confirming about shareaholic, shame as it seems like a cool add on. Maybe someone should tell wp support that they’re page on it is misleading
@timetheif thanks again for the tips, you’re always so helpful. I have linked to you bTW, if you would return the favour it would make a dumb newbie blogger very happy indeed! :-)

@joolsstone Shareaholic may make it easier for you to create new posts for your readers. Works with BOTH WP.org and WP.com blogs!

@joolsstone,
Just for records, in order to add the bookmarklet to Opera you only had to right-click on the bookmarklet link and choose “Bookmark link” and “Create in” “Bookmarks Toolbar”.@shareaholic,
We do not currently support WordPress.COM blogs. But this should change soon!I guess there is already a way to add Shareaholic to wordpress.com blog posts. I have just created a bookmarklet that will land a button in a wordpress.com blog post, even before the blogger leaves the blog editor. When clicked, the button in the published post will take the visitor to the Shareaholic page where the sharing options are available specific for that blog post.
I have tested the bookmarklet in Firefox. I have a feeling it will also work in Opera, Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer. The bookmarklet is similar to the bookmarklet provided for wp.com button by Addtoany.
The Addtoany bookmarklet is available here:
