Setting up 'Sharing' buttons

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I have been trying a couple of times to configure my ‘sharing’ buttons for FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr and as soon as I hit ‘Connect’ I get this message: ‘Invalid/missing request nonce’. What can I do? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello @mycupoftea124
I tried to connect from my account to twitter, facebook and Google+ and I was able to successfully connect to them without any issue.

    You try this:
    1. Clear your browsers cache and cookies.
    2. Login again and try to connect and see if it gets resolved.

    You can also try this:
    1. Login to your social media accounts first.
    2. And then try to connect to them via WordPress.

Let us know if these help. Thanks! 🙂

Hi, I’m also having the same issue. I’ve tried the suggestion above, but still getting the message “invalid/missing request nonce.”

Anything else I can do? Thanks.

  • Hi there,

Sharing buttons do not require you to connect to anything. Are you speaking of setting up sharing buttons at on your site or connecting Publicize under My Site ->Sharing? You can find instructions for adding buttons here:

    Add Social Share Buttons

    @malmilne

Your blog is already connected to Facebook. If you’re trying to reconnect, remove the connection both under My Site ->Sharing AND in Facebook settings under Apps. Then clear your browser cookies, log back in, and reconnect.

Also make sure you have third-party cookies enabled in your browser when you try to reconnect.

Hi, thanks for your reply. It’s not Facebook I’m trying to connect to, it’s Twitter.

    Thanks again.

  • @malmilne

Can you still try clearing your browser cookies as I suggested above, and make sure you have third party cookies enabled in your browser.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Tried it again following your advice. Still not able to connect.

    Anything else I can do?

    Many thanks.

  • What browser are you using? Can you please check if using a different browser makes any difference?

I don’t see anything in your account that would prevent a connection, but it could be something in your browser that’s blocking it.

Hi! @otpidusprime and @kokkieh thanks for answering, I have done all the steps ahead and I still keep having the same problem. When I go to “Publicize your Posts”, there’s a list of social media (FB, Twitter, Google+, etc.) when I press “CONNECT” to share my posts on my news feed it says: “Invalid/missing request nonce”. Help! Thanks.

  • Okay, so you’re trying to connect to Publicize, not set up sharing buttons. That is what I asked above.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache as we’d suggested above? How about using a different browser?

Can you please go to http://supportdetails.com/ and give me the exact browser and version, as well as operating system and version you’re using to connect?

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. I’ve tried what you have suggested multiple times. I’ve tried different browsers and tried logging in/out of Twitter.

I using a Samsung galaxy tab s2 with Linux Android 7.0
The Brower is Samsung Internet version 5.2.03-12

    Thanks.

Hi, I’ve managed to connect to Twitter. I had to login from a laptop to do this.

Hopefully this matter is now closed.

  • You never mentioned that it’s a mobile browser, and the stock Samsung browser at that. The Samsung browser has third party cookies disabled by default – I know because I’ve had to help my father enable them so he’d be able to comment on my site using his phone – and those need to be enabled to connect to other services. Neither we nor Twitter can track your login without using cookies.

I’m glad you managed to get it connected, though :)

Ok, next time I have an issue I will make sure I include more information.
As for the third party cookies, I have these enabled. In a previous response from you, you inform me to enable third party cookies and to clear browser cookies. As I mentioned above I tried everything you suggested but still I couldn’t connect to twitter on my tablet.

Thanks again for your help and advice.

@ kokkieh…Hi! I called it “sharing” because that’s the icon name that takes me to “publicize”, anyway, I have clear my browser cache but haven’t used another browser, actually I can’t use WP with a browser I had to download the app on my laptop so I can be able to use it. The operating system is Windows NT 10.0 and the web browser is Internet Explorer 11.0. My laptop is an HP Envy. Thanks.

  • @malmilne, then it might be some other code this feature needs to work that’s not supported in the Samsung browser. Unfortunately we can’t support every proprietary mobile browser, but things should work in the Android versions of browsers like Chrome or Opera.

    @mycupoftea124

What do you mean you can’t use WordPress.com with a browser? We support all major browsers, including IE11, and I use IE11 daily for testing. As long as you have third party cookies and JavaScript enabled, everything should work in that browser.
