setting up the right theme
-
Is there a way to speak with someone at wordpress to discuss premium theme options? I want to set up my site first and then decide which plan works best. I started using the Harmonic theme but not sure if a paid theme and premium service makes more sense. Chat is only available AFTER you pay for a plan. I need to talk through the selection first. any help??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The only themes we can use on WordPress.com hosted blogs are licensed and adapted to run on our multiuser software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and in your dashboard at > Appearance > Themes
Every theme has a detailed theme description page and this one is at https://wordpress.com/themes/harmonic/ That’s where set up instructions for it are found. The live demo site is at https://harmonicdemo.wordpress.com/
Every premium theme has an additional theme specific support page and a dedicated premium theme support forum.
re: switching themes
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.
Refunds
WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers. The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours.Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.
Canceling upgrades
You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard, cancel any upgrades, claim a refund for any qualified upgrades, and disable auto-renew. Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades -
I’d like to add that the purchase of a premium theme does not allow the ability to change the way the theme functions. Only appearance changes can be made on any themes on wordpress.COM hosted sites.
We wordpress.com bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and cannot edit them. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site for each theme.
Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications. You can read more about why here http://support.wordpress.com/code/, and find a suitable host here http://get.wp.com/hosting/.

Note 2: You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing.

Thank you… My only experience was a few years ago with “Go D…” There I was able to talk with someone about what my needs were and they recommended what plan and what design meet the needs. To look through and read the dozens of themes on here is daunting and really doesn’t tell me if I am finding the right one for my type of business. I know that much is preference but I assume some were built with a particular customer and message in mind. I don’t mind paying for it but I just don’t see where help is available. Thanks for the info though… It WAS and IS helpful. I’ll slug my way through it. Best….

Note this link https://theme.wordpress.com/
Click the “find a theme” link there and specify which features you are looking for by clicking features as well as clicking premium. -
Hi there,
What in particular do you want to know and what type of site are you planning to make?
You can live-preview any theme on your site by going to My Site ->Theme, clicking the options button and selecting the preview option on the theme thumbnail. It’s not perfect, as you’ll only see a preview in the Customizer and won’t be able to try out different post and page templates, but it will give you a feel for the theme without you needing to buy it.
We have several free themes that were created with businesses in mind. A professional-looking site doesn’t depend on paying a lot of money for a theme. You can see our more business-like themes here:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/business/type/free/
A lot is also dependant on how you set up the site vs the theme itself. You can see here for a tutorial in using WordPress.com to create a business website:
Build a Business Website Tutorial
You don’t need a paid plan for any of this. You’ll only need a paid plan if you require extra features such as connecting a custom domain, or if you need our custom design features that @timethief mentioned.
