Setting up WordPress as an agency
-
Hi there I run a digtial marketing agency and are now doing web design for clients, We do not use WordPress for our own business as we have a coded one however we will be doing our web design for clients on WordPress. I am unsure how to set up a WordPress account to A) Be able to login and see all of our clients sites B) Create a hub or get started on the clients sites. How should I get started as we are not looking at transferring accross our domain of our site and not sure of any other way of beggining.
Please help, many thanksI don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hey there! We’d be glad to have you here. I was just discussing this with a freelancer the other day. Do you know whether you’ll be hosting the sites here with us? We take care of maintenance/spam protection/security/etc, and can provide direct support for your users if they are the plan owners.
If you want to be able to manage the sites going forward, here’s one great option for agencies:
- Add each client and buy their plan as needed. If you want to let us know the kinds of sites you’re working on, we can recommend plans, but generally, Premium is a great option if you don’t require outside themes or plugins (we include the functionality of dozens of plugins here) or you can use Business / eCommerce if you need to install outside code.
- When you’re ready for hand-off, you can either transfer site and plan ownership to the client so they can get in touch with support, or you can keep ownership and add them to their sites with roles that fit your needs.
As long as you remain as an administrator on the site, you’ll be able to access them here through WordPress.com. And, if you opt to host with another provider, you can still use WordPress.com as a hub of sorts if you’ll connect the sites through Jetpack. Jetpack also has options for backups/spam protection services and even security scans, so that can be a good choice if you prefer managing your own copy.
What questions do you have as you get started?
