Setting up wordpress with a gsuite domain

Hi there, I am setting up a wordpress site using a gsuite domain and was wondering what the best option would be. Whether to map the site or transfer? I want to keep the domain account with gsuite rather than wordpress.

    Hi there,

You should go with mapping the domain with WordPress.com. If you associate your domain with your WordPress.com site, you renew the domain at your registrar (where you bought the domain).

Here is the link to guide you to map a domain with WordPress.com
    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers!

  • Hi there,

Neither option is better or worse than the other. It depends on what will work best for you – do you prefer to keep your domain and site separate? Then map. Do you prefer to renew both in the same place, then transfer.

The only scenario where mapping would be preferable is if you bought your G Suite subscription from your domain provider instead of directly from Google. In that case that subscription is likely tied to your domain registration, and if you move your domain registration away from that registrar, they might no longer support you G Suite subscription either.

But at worst that means your G Suite subscription will revert back directly to Google, so you’ll renew that at Google each year instead of the provider where you originally bought it.

Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.
