Settings

    Hi,

I would like to change my Permalinks to make it easier for my posts to come up in search engines. I discovered that only self hosting sites have this setting. How can I change them please?

Also, it has been pointed out to me that I only come up in search engines for hearty-food.co.uk. I therefore need to change the site address to read the same as the wordpress address by putting www in front of my URL so google can index both sides. When I go into Store > Domains and try to update domain it says http://www.hearty-food.co.uk is already mapped. Can you advise me please? Thanks. Val

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Val,

I would like to change my Permalinks to make it easier for my posts to come up in search engines.

You can change the last part of your permalinks, called the post slug, by following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/new-post-screen/#post-title-and-permalink-url

The rest of the permalink (including the date) cannot be changed here at WordPress.com. To do that, you’ll need a self-hosted WordPress.org site. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org

I therefore need to change the site address to read the same as the wordpress address by putting www in front of my URL so google can index both sides.

Your domain with the www at http://www.hearty-food.co.uk will always be redirected to the version without the www at http://hearty-food.co.uk. Redirecting the first version of your URL to the second version actually helps to ensure that search engines index your site properly.

When someone searches Google for http://www.hearty-food.co.uk, they will get the results on your domain at hearty-food.co.uk.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!
