Several AMP Related Errors on my free WordPress.COM Website

    Hello Experts,

I have been facing a lot of issues lately wrt AMP with my free wordpress blog.

There are several AMP issues reported from the past month, of which, I have no idea about. I have scoured through countless resources in this page as well, but since it is too technical, I am afraid to touch anything.

Please help me in restoring my blog on mobile devices.

    The errors are:

    1. Custom JavaScript Not allowed
    2. A mandatory AMP HTML tag is missing from this document
    3. The parent tag of tag ‘html’ must be ‘!doctype’
    4. The attribute tabindex is missing or incorrect, but required by the attribute ‘on’
    5. A tag on this page requires an AMP component ‘script’ tag, which is missing.
    6. Only amp-boilerplate and amp-custom ‘style’ tags are allowed, and only in the document head.

Would appreciate a quick response on this. Will be extremely grateful.

As already stated by Staff members in other threads, you can just ignore those so called errors.

Thank you staartmees for the quick response.

I am really worried whether the website is working on mobile devices or not.

All active wordpress.com themes are responsive meaning they work on any screen size.

Thank you so much for your help.

  • Hi @theweirdfacts,

We are already aware of the issue related to AMP with some WordPress.com sites.

AMP is an optional service on WordPress.com. AMP versions of your posts are available, and that non-AMP versions are also available in Google Search and loading quickly. While the errors will mean that an AMP-specific version won’t be stored in Google’s AMP cache, the non-AMP version of your site is still available.

If these errors are bothersome, you can choose to temporarily turn off AMP on your blog by going to Settings > Performance from your blog’s dashboard. You can read more about that here as well.

As AMP is mainly designed to increase the loading speed of your site on mobile devices, it won’t affect indexing your page by Google. But, an advantage of AMP being enabled is that your site’s results in Google will be marked by the AMP badge on mobile-based searches, allowing them to stand out more.

We will investigate this issue further, however we do not have a timeline for a resolution.

    Hope that clarifies things.

    Hi

Is there any way we remove these errors even for wordpress.com websites?

  • Hi, as staff-sheva already mentioned in their reply, we’re already investigating this issue and we don’t have a timeline for a resolution.
