Share experiences and help each other. Import/Export File

    Hello All.

    I don’t know if this is right forum, but under support it say’s “Share experiences and help eachother. I’m having a problem when creating an export file so as to import it so a self hosted blog using wp software. Before you bash me I know how to create the file and import it. I’ve submitted two tickets to wpdotcom support which have gone unanswered, one being a week old and the other sitting on the third day.
    It seems when I create my export file and import it all my categories are being duplicated. I have a category ‘better blogging’ attached to 58 posts. It being one category. When I import it show up 58 times under the category listing in the sidebar. It was suggested at wpdotorg to deactivate any plugins and use the default theme then run the importer tool.
    Same result 58 cats …better blogging. When I submitted at wpdotorg my question went unanswered for 3 days ….*sigh*

    I’m lost …..

    additional info:

    I have wp locally installed on my machine as a test blog.
    I’m using the most recent import tool.
    When you do this you have the option to import all categories.
    I have only 13 categories, but they import as 146 categories.
    Could someone bring this to the attention of a mod who could then
    bring it to the attention of a happiness engineer?

    I forgot to mention

    If I delete all those redundant categories then all my posts are then uncategorized. I would then have to recreate cats. go through all my posts and recat them. I have a hard time believing the most popular blogging platform/software would have one take those steps to get your posts in order.

    The desktop import part of your issue should be addressed at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

    @auxclass

    I’m more than well aware of the difference between .com and .org I’m not able to get ANY timely support from .org or .com

    Perhaps the problem is with the .com export did you think of that?
