Share Stats Don't Match

  • Unknown's avatar

The post shares statistics don’t’ seem to match up at all.

Take for example this post: http://cynng.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/twitter-search-rss-feed/

If you scroll down, it says:
    Facebook: 0
    Twitter: 87
    LinkedIn: 10
    All others: 0

but on my stats page: my-stats/?blog_shares&post=[id #] it says this:
    Twitter 21
    Facebook 7
    StumbleUpon 4
    Reddit 4
    Google +1 4
    Tumblr 3
    Pinterest 3
    Digg 3
    LinkedIn 2
    Email 1

This is true of just about every single post I have…

Any information on why the numbers are so different would be appreciated.

Our stats are not real time stats and take hours to update. Perhaps that’s a factor or perhaps not. I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

Definitely not a factor. My blog does not get that many hits in a day, let alone shares. You’ll notice that post is almost 2 years old.

The icons on your post page shows all the shares that include this URL, whether or not they ever visited your page. On your stats page, you only see the shares that were made using the share button.

It may be a bit confusing, but if you want to see the total number of shares regardless of how they were made, look at the post page itself. If you want to see your WordPress.com-specific shares, look at your Stats page.

Hopefully that will help to clear up some of the confusion!

That makes sense though a little confusing. Might want to add a note somewhere in the documentation.

    Thanks for the info!
