Shared public calendars

I keep a calendar of events for my blog with timings etc on Apple iCloud. However when they are published to WordPress the times are incorrect. I have checked to ensure that both my iCloud calendar and the WordPress blog are on London, England time zone. Please can you advise how this problem can be fixed.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

Are you referring to the calendar showcased in the Upcoming Events widget? For example, it looks like Salisbury Craft Festival is occurring from September 4, 2015 at 1:00 pm – September 6, 2015 at 6:00 pm. Could you let me know the correct times for that event so I can investigate a bit more?

Many thanks for looking at this.

The blog is shawandwhitley.wordpress.com rather than my main blog which seems to be OK. The upcoming events listing shows e.g.
    WI Meeting
    January 12, 2015 at 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
    Shaw Village Hall

The listing should be WI Meeting January 12, 2015 at 7.30 pm – 9.00 pm

Thanks for clarifying! I imported the calendar into a test calendar on my side just as a test. The event times came out in Pacific Standard Time, which seems odd if the calendar settings are correct. Can you make sure that the iCloud calendar has the correct timezone set and the calendar events don’t have a specified timezone that differs from the calendar timezone?

I have checked my iCloud settings and there indeed was a discrepancy. While the timezone was set at ‘UKTime’ the iWork region was set at ‘United States’. I have changed this to UKT/UK. The WordPress settings I have confirmed as Standardtime – Timezone London.

I have changed nothing in the calendar and it has not been updated as of my last viewing so I can’t confirm whether the change to the iWork region has been effective.

    Hi!

Can you try to remove the Upcoming Events widget from your site and then re-add it following the steps here?

    Upcoming Events Legacy Widget

I believe you’ll need to re-grab the URL for the changes to take effect.

I have removed the Upcoming Events widget twice in the last 24 hours. I have reviewed the iCalendar public calendar link and included it in the reinstated Upcoming Events widget. Sadly, the calendar still does not show the proper times.
Would it be helpful if I sent you a direct link to the calendar?

    HI!

I’m actually able to pull the calendar straight from the widget URL. I uploaded it again to a test calendar on my side, and it looks like the times might be correct on the actual calendar now. For example, “WI Meeting” is now showing as 7:30pm GMT. Is that the correct time?

Yes, that’s the correct time. Although the WordPress site appears as the wrong time on my browser!

    Hi @jiseys,

It looks like this is some sort of caching issue between the Upcoming Events widget and the Google calendar. I’m looking at how we can potentially speed up the update process. Right now, the only solution seems to be creating a whole new calendar, which isn’t a great solution. I’ll keep digging and let you know what I come up with!

    Hi @jiseys,

I apologize for the delay here. Have you been able to get the widget to update by using another calendar or did the widget update on its own after a brief period?

    Hi Jeremy

I still have no resolution to my issue with calendars in wordpress. I have checked all my settings in iCloud and can’t see anything amiss. The times sill appear wrong on my wordpress blog.

    Have you any further suggestions?

    Hi David,

I’m afraid I don’t have a better resolution at the moment. Have you tried creating a new calendar?

This bug is on our radar, but higher impact items have pushed the fix down our priority list a bit.
