Shared someone else's blog post, now pix from post appear in my own photo galler

Hi All. I generally use WP to host my webpage, so I don’t really do the blog thing just yet. However I did recently Share someone else’s blog post on my own blog or whatever. When I was updating one of my own website Pages today, and then trying to Upload some Photos, I saw that my Photo Gallery now contains all the photos associated with that other person’s blog post. I do NOT want this happening every time I share someone’s blog and have no idea why WP would be set up this way to do this. Is is that somehow, by sharing their post on MY blog, the post then sort of ‘became’ my post, and so too the photos? What do I do to ensure I don’t have this same problem going forward? Tx!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @yippee1999,

then trying to Upload some Photos, I saw that my Photo Gallery now contains all the photos associated with that other person’s blog post.

Can you send a link to the page where you see this? I don’t see a gallery on your site.

When I say ‘gallery’, this is not something visible to my WP page visitors. This is my own ‘internal gallery’ of photos that I’ve ever uploaded to WP. Apparently WP saves any/all pix that I’ve uploaded to my various WP pages, to an ‘internal gallery’. Then, anytime I am editing one of my pages and I want to insert photos, WP will first display a gallery of all my pix to choose from. If the pix aren’t in my gallery (i.e., were already uploaded to one of my WP site pages), then WP then gives me the option to add a photo (browse) from my hard drive.

This ‘internal gallery’ is very handy as I often want to use the same photos on multiple pages. I can look through my gallery for the photos I want to re-use. But what I don’t want is to have my own internal gallery cluttered with someone else’s photos (that apparently got added to my gallery by way of my Sharing someone else’s blog on my own blog page)

  • Okay, you mean your media library?

    Here’s what I’ll bet happened:

    – You shared an article from another site

    – That site’s images were not secure. Had we tried to display them here anyway, your users would have seen error messages about some content not being secure.

    – In order to securely display the images, the system automatically put them on your site (since your site is secure.)

    I hope that helps.

Thanks. So I guess the moral of the story is that if I want to ensure this never happens again, my only option is to Never share anyone else’s blog on my own blog.

  • @yippee1999 or only share blogs that are encrypted with HTTPS. Or manually quote some text from their article and link to it, the way https://ma.tt often does.
