Sharing
-
I set up sharing with a variety of social sites. However, none of the buttons I selected shows up. Why? I picked a few unique buttons to display, and put the rest under “sharing.” Nothing shows up on my posts. Why?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Katherine, I see several sharing buttons at the bottom of your latest Post:
http://katherineharms.com/2014/05/08/language-on-the-loose/I see Press This, Twitter, Facebook, Google + , LinkedIn, and then you’ve added several others to be shown when the reader clicks on the “More” button.
Could you explain further which buttons are missing, or appearing in the wrong manner Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

When I clicked the link, lo and behold sharing was there. Then I realized that I wrote down the link to the wrong blog. The blog I need help with is http://livingontilt.com. I am so sorry I did that. Boy do I feel stupid. Can you please look at this one and help me. I did the same settings as for the other one, at least I thought I did, but nothing shows up on this one.
Thanks

Hi Katherine! I see your buttons on this site as well, underneath the content of your Post:
http://livingontilt.com/2014/05/12/beware-having-faith-may-disqualify-you-for-admission-to-college/I think I might see where the confusion is. The sharing buttons will appear on your individual post pages, such as the one I linked above. Sharing buttons aren’t meant to show on your blog main page. I think that may be where you’re expecting to see them. Does this sound right? If not, let me know and I’ll keep troubleshooting the issue for you.
Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much and happy blogging!

Are you saying that if someone comes to my blog via http://livingontilt.com, the sharing buttons do not display?
Yet if someone comes to the individual post via the permalink the buttons do display? I tried each option, and that is what I observed.
If this is the way they behave, I was not aware, and I have been remiss. I always share my master link because it is so much more convenient. If I must always share the permalink, I have to go get it. I can’t remember it.
Two questions:
1 – If this is the way things work now, is there some important reason that it cannot change ?
2 – If there is no important reason not to allow sharing to display on the master blog page, how to I ask for this change to be added the development “to do” list?
I appreciate the clear explanation. I just want to see it changed if possible, because otherwise, I must always go looking for the permalink. I like being able to refer people to my blog even when I don’t have the permalink handy. Is there a way around this problem? Why shouldn’t they be able to share when they view the main blog page?
Thanks,
Katherine -
Are you saying that if someone comes to my blog via http://livingontilt.com, the sharing buttons do not display?
Yet if someone comes to the individual post via the permalink the buttons do display? If you wish the sharing buttons to show up on your blog’s front page (where all of the posts are displayed, rather than just on individual posts), you can adjust this setting in you Dashboard under Settings > Sharing. Look for the option “Show buttons on: Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results”.

Oh, wonderful. I went right through all those settings yesterday, but that selection did not make sense to me. Now it does. I followed your instructions, and all is well. Thank you so very much.
