how do I “share” my blog with my friends by email. I don’t want to use a social media site or sites.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Copy the link in the browser bar and email it to them. Or just enable the Share By Email icon under Settings->Sharing on your dashboard and click that.

I am just setting this up for the first time. I can’t seem to find a “Share By Email icon” on the dashboard. I will continue to search:)

Thanks. I found that one but doesn’t that just allow them to share it with someone or am I reading this wrong? I want to be able to publish it and have a notice sent to each of my followers each time it is published. Do I manually add each email and invite them? It says a max of 10 emails but I assume I can do that several times if I want to invite more than ten people???

If you post the email icon then you visitors can email the posts or pages to themselves or to any email address of their choice.

You can set up email subscriptions here > Appearance > Widgets > Follow Blog Widgets by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
Your subscribers will control the frequency they receive your posts emailed to them (instantly, daily, weekly, never).
If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts go to > Settings > Reading and scroll down to Follower Settings:
These settings change emails sent from your blog to followers.
Logged out users __ Show follow button to logged out users.Checking this will present a follow button to logged out users in the bottom corner of their screen.
We have a subscription shortcode which you can make use of. The help page on it is right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscription-shortcode/
You can create a Page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ and place a contact form on it for private communication with your visitors, or for opting into receiving a newsletter for example. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

Ah, that’s not what we are talking about.
What you want is for your friends to SUBSCRIBE to your blog via email. You cannot force them to do this; you cannot add them. They have to subscribe, themselves. Use the widget which WP.com has made for this purpose (on your dashboard Widgets page), I think it’s called the Follow by Email widget.

Thanks raincoaster. I guess I wasn’t clear enough in my question. Yes, I want them to subscribe; no I don’t want to force them. I just wanted to know how to invite them to follow it. But I have now tried the “Users”>Invite new and set it at “Followers” and it seems to work. I’m still experimenting but I think I have figured it out.

<blockquotHmmm, seems to work for me.
Tried sending invitations to a couple of my other email addresses, wrote several posts and as soon as I published each post, each of those email addresses got a notice.

@royandclaudia
What I posted above is on topic and relevant.

Thanks timethief. I’ve been putzing with it and did see how to set the follow button. But I still need to notify my friends that it is there so they can go and choose to follow or not, and how often they want updates. So far my way (above) is the only way I have found that works and lets them know when a new post is published.

I don’t think you understand what I posted. You can set up email subscriptions for your friends and they will automatically get every post. All they have to do is type in an email address once and that’s it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/ So why futz around?
-
-
You tell them? You email them? You phone them? You spam the link to the blog on their Facebook and ask them to subscribe?
-
Exactly my point! So since I have to send them an email anyway, why wouldn’t I just type or cut and paste their address once into the invitation form and be done with it?!
-
Because it’s illegal to subscribe someone to a newsletter without their explicit consent, for one thing. For another, maybe your friends don’t like spammers.
-
Ok this conversation is getting ridiculous and this will be my last post. I have solved my own issue.
And just FYI, I am not SUBSCRIBING these people. I am SENDING THEM AN INVITATION to subscribe. I can do this by doing what I’ve described. They can choose to follow the link to subscribe or not. These are friends who follow my other blogs regularly when I travel. I am considering a new platform this year. They have already asked to be notified and given the website when it is up and running so I am certainly not spamming them and your suggesting I am is really quite insulting and totally uncalled for. So far I am not impressed with WordPress. I don’t like the IPad version and I certainly don’t care for this support forum.
