Sharing button doesn't shorten URL

  I use the social media sharing buttons available under Settings > Sharing.

  When clicking the Twitter button as a reader, the URL of my post was automatically shortened to something like: http://wp.me/pf1R0-3GB

  But now that doesn’t happen. When clicking the Twitter button, the full URL is stated: https://ryan2point0.wordpress.com/2016/03/22/20-real-world-examples-of-virtual-reality/

  This happens on all my posts, with all button styles, in Edge and Chrome, Windows 10.

  Any ideas?

  Because Twitter automatically uses a link shortening service of its own for tweeted URLs, we have removed link shortening from the WordPress.com sharing buttons.

  Thanks rootjosh, but Twitter’s auto shortener only renders on mobile… right?

  As far as I understand, it is an automatic thing that they use everywhere.
