Sharing exe files with our users

I understand why WP won’t allow exe files. But, I need to distribute exe files to our users who request them from a form on our page. Can you suggest an alternative method for us to do this? Before we switched to WP, we had an FTP site for this purpose. But, FTP is not an option with wordpress.com.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Since exe files can’t be uploaded directly to WordPress.com, you’ll need to upload those exe files to another file sharing service. I personally tend to use Dropbox for sharing files, but I know that some other folks like services like Google Drive or Box.com. I’d recommend checking out some of those third-party file sharing services to see if one will work for what you need.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

    Thanks, Rachel

We tried DropBox but some users claim their IT won’t allow even shared DropBox-stored files. We also tried Google Drive but get the same response. It seems corporations have gotten quite sensitive about possible breaches through these avenues. The only way we have gotten around this is to send a link directly to a person in IT who will then ‘bless’ the file as clean; clearly not an automated process.

We used to use FTP before switching to WordPress. We may be required to set up a separate server just for this purpose.
