Sharing Home page on Facebook

  When I click the Facebook icon on my (static) home page so that I can share it, an old version pops up, the one I first called Canyon Wren.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi Meg!

  This is likely occurring because your static home page contains no page title. If you’ll give that page a title (I’d recommend using the same thing as your site title “Meg Scherch Peterson,”) refresh the page, then try the Facebook share again — Facebook will pull the header from the new page title instead of the old page title.

  Thanks, Alex, for the suggestion. I re-titled the page and updated it. Then, I viewed the page and the new title was there. I then clicked on the Facebook icon. Unfortunately, the old Canyon Wren page still came up again.

  FYI, I started Canyon Wren as blog, then switched to website format.

  Hi Meg!

  Thanks for re-titling that page. I just checked out your site and tried the Facebook share and it correctly titled the share “Meg Scherch Peterson” this time.

  

  It’s likely your browser is now just loading a cached version of the page with the previous title. Could you please clear your cache and cookies and try the share again to see if you get the same result I got in the screenshot above?

  Alex, I think you nailed the cause of my problems. I followed your link to clearing cache and cookies. It appears that perhaps my browser was loading a cached version and I just needed to wait until it “caught up” with the correct version. As you said, the share is loading the correct version now. I will go back, however, and clear cache and cookies anyway. I never knew something like that could be the problem.

  Hi Meg,

  The cache and cookies happens all the time. Especially when you’re editing your site, if you find a change didn’t go as expected, try reloading with a cleared cache as a first step to tracking the issue.
