Sharing to Public on Google ?

On one of my blogs, I’ve connected my google+ account to allow for sharing. However, it seems as though it shares the post “only with me” and not publicly. Is there a way to change those settings either in wordpress.com or on google plus so that they post to my google+ profile shared with Public, and/or a specific circle?
It seems that this is a counter-productive way of getting my message out, to share something I’ve written only with me, and not to my intended audience.
