Shopify store + wordpress blog

  Hi, I need some help understanding what’s possible in terms of domain mapping.
  I already have a store where I sell things on Shopify and that’s not changing, but I’d like to start and connect a blog that’s set up on wordpress.
  I bought my domain on namecheap and know I can modify the setting. But I want to make sure that all the domain settings keep pointing in the right directions and I can add a wordpress connection without issue.
  Can you share details on how to make this happen without interrupting existing connections?

  Hi @kmolew, it depends on what you’re aiming to do. So just to clarify, will you be mapping a subdomain like blog.yourgroovydomain.com and keeping the main domain at Shopify, or do you have something else in mind?

  Yes. I’d like to keep the main domain at Shopify and just have a blog.domain.com attached.

  I just want to make sure that if this WordPress blog gets connected nothing else gets disconnected or disabled in the process. A lot of the terminology I’ve come across says “change” (e.g. the CNAME or other DNS elements) vs. “add”, which concerns me as I’m really not savvy when it comes to all things related to my domain.

  Adding domain mapping for a subdomain on your Shopify domain to the site on WordPress.com won’t affect your Shopify store in any way, as you won’t be changing where the domain itself is pointed – CNAMEs can only be used to point subdomains somewhere else, never the domain itself (also called the root).

  Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1) In your DNS editor in Shopify, add a new CNAME record
  2) For the “Name” or “Host” or “@” value, enter “blog” (or whatever you want the subdomain to be.
  3) In the “Alias” or “Points to” value, enter your “example.wordpress.com” address – note you don’t include the “https://” here.
  4) On WordPress.com, select the site you want to map to the subdomain and upgrade to a paid plan.
  5) Go to the Add Domain screen and select domain mapping.

  Ok, I want to keep my blog name, and add it to shopify. I thought that there was an app that could connect the two. I am tech stupid, so what you mentioned above is beyond my tech intelligence! lol
