  Hi , i am totally new to this. My website is http://www.sixthempire.com

  i would like to add a ” add to cart ” button or a ” buy now” button to my products on my caps page. how do i get started?
  if i were to do this, do i have to pay monthly subscription fees?

  You have posted to the support forums that are only for free hosted WordPress.com bloggers. You not have a blog linked to your username and you did not provide a link to ths blog in question starting with http:// so please read this first WordPress.com vs WordPress.org: The Differences http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot install any individual plugins into them at all. No blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM

  Your blog IS a WP.com blog, but WP.com is not a place where ecommerce features like you require are enabled. You may need to move your site off WP.com or set up a shop elsewhere and just link to it.

  6thempire, you can use a PayPal Buy Now button on WordPress.com. Here’s how:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

  The instructions explain how to use a Donate button, but the same technique also works with Buy Now buttons (see the note at the end of the instructions).

  You can use Buy Now buttons without paying any monthly fees to WordPress.com. Unfortunately, you cannot create a full-fledged shopping cart on WordPress.com.

  @fwchapman, You cannot use a PayPal Buy Now button at wordpress.com. You an use the PayPal DONATE button only, and only the plain HTML version of that button. Read the support page you referenced.

  @fwchapman, And besides, the original poster has as self-hosted site so they are in the wrong forum and have options we at wordpress.COM do not.

  As an interesting aside, Sixth Empire is (re)selling products made by Quintin Co., which has a really nice WooCommerce store on a self-hosted WordPress.org website. Given that, setting up a makeshift store on WordPress.com doesn’t really make sense to me.

  @ajmattic, thanks for clarifying that reselling products made by others is a violation of the WordPress.com Terms of Service.

  Sixth Empire is on this official list of Quintin Co. dealers, which makes it clear that Sixth Empire is indeed a reseller of products manufactured by somebody else.
