Shopping Cart functionality
-
I am new to WordPress and currently using the free WordPress.com. I also have a Stripe account. I recently purchased the Simple Pay Pro thinking it would be sufficient to handle my taxing concerns, but that is not the case. I am confused on what exactly I need to get my cart to have the following functionality:
Select and item to purchase
Update Qty
Pay w/ Credit Card
Configure tax to collect for certain state only
Add a fixed amount to cover shippingObviously I am trying to go the least expensive route, but getting confused on all the necessary “extra” I need that cost to get it working properly. Any suggest would be wonderful!

Hi,
Looks like you want to start an online store to sell things.
To use Store on WP.com, you will need to be located in Canada or the United States, be on a WordPress.com Business plan, and have previously installed a custom plugin or theme.
To learn more about store visit this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/store/
The Business Plan upgrade costs $299 per year.
The other option would be to have a self-hosted site. That is a site hosted on WordPress.org software on hosting provider’s server. There are many web hosting providers who will offer WordPress hosting and you can then install a plugin to create an online store. WooCommerce is a nice plugin which will give you all the functionality you mentioned in the question.

Hi there,
Just to clarify, you don’t need to be in Canada or the US to have an online store on WordPress.com. That only applies to the Store feature built into the My Sites dashboard.
With the Business Plan you can still install any eCommerce plugin, for example, WooCommerce, to set up an online store. You’ll just need to manage it via the WP-Admin dashboard instead of via My Sites.
Note that to install any plugin on WordPress.com will require the Business Plan.

Hi, thank you for the information!
I have a Business plan and I am located in Sweden. I couldn’t find the Store feature under My Sites Dashboard.
I think I need to install a plugin, like Woocommerce, in aid to get the store functioning, right?
I am trying to install the plugin, but it warns me that I will use the feature ”Writing Helper” which I am very familiar in using!
What would you advise? Thanks -

@samijammoul, in future please don’t post into threads created by other users. As a Business Plan owner you can contact live chat or priority email support via this link:
https://wordpress.com/help/contact
If you are located in Sweden you won’t see the Store option in My Sites, as that feature is currently only available for people based in the US and Canada, as already stated in this thread.
You can still install plugins at My Site ->Plugins, which I see you did right after posting in this thread. Sites using plugins work differently from regular WordPress.com sites, so you will no longer have access to certain features like the Writing Helper feature in the editor.
If you need more help with this, please contact us via live chat.
