Shoreditch Theme Footer Credit Disappeared

  • Unknown's avatar

I think I already posted this, but I can’t seem to find it. If it’s up somewhere, I apologize for the repetition.

Somehow the footer credit for the Shoreditch theme disappeared. Not sure what I could have done. I tried removing various CSS codes I used then tested the page, but that didn’t seem to be the problem. Suggestions, please?

The site I’m working on is: clarityworksonline.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @rrsdd , we recently introduced footer-credit options:
    https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2016/07/06/customize-footer-credit/

Some of those options looked really odd with the theme mentioned along side it, especially for business users who were hiding our credit altogether. So for now we’ve decided to remove the theme notice. If you’ve got some feedback on that, I’d be happy to pass it along.

I don’t have a problem with the theme credit not showing, but it’s a mystery to me why it was there and then suddenly disappeared. It will be fine the way it is.

I have another question while I have you on the line, so to speak. Tell me if I need to post this separately. I work primarily from the classic dashboard (I build mostly custom sites in WordPress.org), and it seems the Visit Site link directly from the old dashboard is missing. There’s another WordPress.com site I manage – theorionchannel.com – but that site can easily be accessed from a top left dropdown that has the Visit Site link. Why does this site not have it? And can I get it back? I really need it.

    Thanks much…

  • Oh, did this only recently disappear? Or are you just used to it being there for WordPress.org sites? For what it’s worth, the master bar on individual installs is quite different.

Can you let me know how you use it typically? I get that you’re using it to view the site while making changes, but I’m wondering which changes. I might be able to help or at least be able to pass some feedback back to our developers.

The Visit Site link was never there in the classic dashboard on the clarityworksonline.com site. Yet it is there on another wordpress.com site I maintain – theorionchannel.com Why is this?

How I work on the classic dashboard on WordPress.org is as follows:

I login. I opposite click on Visit Site and open it in a new tab. Then I work from the site. I’ll click Edit Page (at the top of the dashboard) to edit a page. I’ll work on that page, Preview it, then when ready, Update it. I go back to the live site in the open tab and continue working on each page that needs editing. On my first dashboard tab, I’ll access menus or widgets, etc.

On wp.com blue dashboard, I can click on My Site, but the site still won’t open. I first have to click on something in the blue dashboard – i.e. Pages. Then I’ll be able to View the Site. Once I’m in that dashboard, I’m locked in. If I click Edit on a live page, I have to do it in the blue dashboard. Also, the blue dashboard will not give me a live preview of the changes I’ve made. I have to Update in order to see those changes on the full screen.

What I’ve been doing to compensate a bit is this is:

I login to the site and am in the classic dashboard. I then go to All Pages, and opposite click Edit on the page I want to edit and open it in a new tab. At that point I can edit from the classic dashboard, preview, and update. But once I view the updated page and want to edit another page from there, I’m taken only to the blue dashboard. I can only get back to the classic dashboard by clicking the tab I first opened it in.

The big question is: Has WordPress.com actually removed the Visit Site link from the classic dashboard? Or is there something malfunctioning on this particular site?

Thanks for asking. Any help is much appreciated.

  • @rrsdd Do you use a different username to manage that site? Some of the older accounts have different options. Specifically, once we went full-steam with Calypso (the blue admin area that’s much more consistent with our mobile apps and is also designed to work faster), we stopped including so many links to the old dashboard so users wouldn’t be switched back and forth between two admin areas.

If all of your processes work well with this older username, you might consider adding that user to this site.

That said, one of the benefits of Calypso is its preview. You should be getting a good preview of any given page, even in different screen sizes. If that is not the case, we could help troubleshoot that as well if you’d like.

    @ supernovia,

Due to the frequent absence of footer credits on the WordPress.com site a forum topic refers to, I am often unable to detect which theme is being used. Is there an easy way to detect the theme that I’ve been missing? Have sometimes been able to detect a hint tools Page > Info. Haven’t yet found a support page or forum topic dealing specifically with this issue.

Have sometimes been able to detect a hint tools Page > Info.

    Correction:
I’ve sometimes been able to detect a hint as to which theme is applied at Tools > Page Info.

  • Ah I’m glad you asked. We’ve started hiding the theme in the footer due to the changes with the other parts of the footer credits. But you can still find the theme if you click the three dots while visiting a site. It should look like this:

    @ supernovia,

Thanks! I do find the follow link and three dots on a couple of other sites I responded to recently in the forum, but not on this site: https://clarityworksonline.com/.

I mean, of course, on sites referred to in a couple of other forum topics I responded to recently.

Yes. This is the problem I have not been able to resolve. Somehow, the Shoreditch theme footer credit disappeared on its own and I can’t get it back. There was no WP choice not to have it show. It just disappeared, and now the theme cannot be identified by a viewer or through http://www.wpthemedetector.com/

I really need some technical support help to resolve this problem. Something made it disappear. Perhaps some CSS code I’m using. Thanks.

    @ rrsdd,

I understand. But how then did supernovia create a screen shot of your front page that includes the follow link and the three dot icon?

  • Interesting, I see the three dots thing pretty consistently, even if I’m logged into my test account.

You do see it on other sites and just not this one, @musicdoc1?

  • Unknown's avatar

As I explained to musicdoc1 yesterday, there is no Follow button on clarityworksonline.com I did not put one there. And therefore, no 3 dots to open. But even if there were, I don’t know if the Shoreditch theme would come up, since I might have done something to mess up the footer credit in the footer.php file. Or in the CSS code I was working on when it disappeared. And, of course, I have no access to the Shoreditch theme files in WP.com, so I can’t tell if anything got messed up. It’s a mystery.

    @supernovia,

You do see it on other sites and just not this one, @musicdoc1?

That’s correct. I’ve seen it on every WP.com site I’ve checked except this one. On this site, in the area where it normally appears there is an up arrow, an icon with the link URL https://clarityworksonline.com/#main.

  • We automatically put a little bar there for logged in users, even if you aren’t using any other follow buttons.

Odd that it doesn’t show for you though, Doc. Same thing in other browser? I’ve tried Chrome and Firefox here on my mac with this account as well as a test account and I still see it. It does go away when I scroll, fwiw, but that’s normal. If I scroll up all the way, it comes back.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ supernovia,

I had only tried FF 48.0, but it fails to show also on a recent version of Chrome, version 52.0.2743.116 m.

It does go away when I scroll, fwiw, but that’s normal. If I scroll up all the way, it comes back.

Yes, that behavior occurs for me on other WP. com sites, but scrolling has no effect upon the visibility of the Follow and three-dot icons on this site. They’ve never appeared for a second, and I’ve visited the site at least a dozen times. Just tried again, visiting the homepage, posts, static pages, and archives pages. Nothing. : (

I also tried zooming in and zooming out about five clicks each way on Firefox. Nada.

  • Strange. If you’d like to look to see if there are any JS errors that may help. I can’t duplicate this here no matter which browser I use.
