short alias for wordpress.com

    Hi,

myblog.wordpress.com/mytellingpage001 is the standard way to access my pages.
This may grow very long and get broken when mail programs insert newlines.

Yes, there is the wp.me/some-non-telling-hex-string method.
But I would rather have something shorter than “wordpress.com” and the parts of the blog URL chosen by me unchanged.

Just tried, but myblog.wp.me/mytellingpage001 unfortunately is not working despite being less likely to be broken since 8 characters shorter.

Are “telling” urls under wp.me planned?

Many thanks for any hints in advance

    Ralf

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you want a shorter URL why not register a short custom domain?

    Hi Tandava,
There is no intention of further branding my blog.
Therefore, registering a custom domain just to save 8 characters in my URL appears to be an “overkill”?

I don’t expect that wp.me will ever be used as an alternative to wordpress.com. Really, how many people type in the URL anyway?

    Hi Tavanda,
There must be a misunderstanding. I don’t expect people to type the URL.
I just notice that when I mail people my blog page URL and they respond, my page-url gets spread over 2 lines by 3 characters.
So, the URL that is recognized by Outlook is truncated and thus, end-users might not get to the page, but to a 404 server error.
Quite some people are not internet-literate enough to re-assemble an URL that is spread over 2 lines in an e-mail :( .
With only wp.me, it takes 8 characters more until that problem occurs.

Sorry, I noticed that you said that in your original email. I don’t know what version of Outlook you are using, but in 2010 if you set the format to HTML and add the link via “Insert->Hyperlink” then links do not get split and do work.
