  • Hi there. You’re speaking about two completely different things here.

Shortcodes can only be used inside posts and pages and are merely a simplified way to insert much more complicated code, for example to play a video, into a post. There’s no shortcode for recent posts.

Widgets are little mini-programs you can add to your site’s sidebar or footer. The Recent Posts widget automatically displays the most recent posts according to their date stamps. I can see the Recent Posts widget in your sidebar. It’s displaying ten posts, the most recent one, Archeage: Going back to playing with shameless selfies, published today, so it appears to be updating correctly.

If you’re confused by the two top posts on your home page, Up! Up! and away! from March 13 and Oil Painting – Stargazers from April 15, those to posts are probably set as sticky, so they’ll always appear at the top of your home page. However, they won’t appear in the widget, as the widget ignores sticky posts and only goes on publication dates.

If you no longer want those to posts to be stuck to the top of your home page, go to the WP-Admin dashboard, click on Posts ->All Posts, click Quick Edit under the post title and unselect the box next to “Make this post sticky”
