Shortcode
-
I have added a shortcode to one of my pages and it works well, making the posts into a list or what not but I am unable to get thumbnails to show. Is there something extra I need to write or put somewhere for the thumbnails to show?
I received the shortcode from http://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/ and even when using a simple shortcode such as this one no thumbnails will show.
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" image_size="thumbnail" wrapper="div"]Please help!! Thank you!!

This is the link to the page but as previously stated its a private site so I’m not sure if you’ll be able to see it.
-
Thanks! I can see it since I’m a staff member.
It looks like your posts don’t have Featured Images set. The image displayed through this shortcode is the Featured Image, so there’s no image to display. Here’s some info about setting a Featured Image:
Let me know if you have questions about this!

Yes it worked!! Thank you for the quick reply and the help.
I also have another question that hasn’t been answered on a different thread so I’m hoping you can help me.
Suburbia is the theme I’m using and would like to have my static home page resemble the demo page. I saw I was able to make my blog page look like the demo page through the sticky option but since the home page is not the blog I need another way to do it.
Is there anyway to give the same look (at least just two post) in the static home page?
-
In the Suburbia theme the “S” on the top left corner is the header image that you can replace with one of your own. The custom header image is 155 by 155 (width, height). That header image can be replaced here > Appearance > Header.
Featured images sizes are critical to display.
Suburbia description notes http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/suburbia/
live demo site http://suburbiademo.wordpress.com/On the main page, Suburbia doesn’t display regularly inserted images. Regularly inserted images only display when a post is viewed on its own page – not on the front page.
To have front page image display you need to set a featured image to each post and make each post a sticky post. Note that the size of the featured image does matter. Featured image sizes are critical to display. The featured image works best with images at least 350 by 248 (width, height) – smaller images will not work.

You could probably manually create the look of the two posts on your home page. Is there a reason you don’t want your blog posts displayed on the home page? Can you tell me what you want the entire page to look like/include?
-
Thank you for your input Time Thief but I believe Shawna is more on point with the questions.
How could we manually create the look of the two posts on the home page?
The reason we don’t want the blog posts displayed on the home page is because we have a blog page called Listings. We would like the home page to be a different blog page with different posts.
-
It sounds like you might be interesting in using a Category Page. Here’s some info on that. Let me know if this sounds like it would work for you!

As for recreating the look, you would have to add the images you want and the excerpts into the current page, and then format them to line up the way you want, and add links to the actual post. If you want to take a stab at setting that up, I can help you figure it out anywhere you get stuck.
-
Shawna, I will try your suggestion.
In the meantime I was hoping you could answer another question?
The theme I am using, Suburbia, is not mobile friendly. On my i-phone the menus are not clickable. I looked for info on the WP help section, but I cannot figure out what I should do.
Thanks in advance.

Shawna,
1 more question please:
I seem to have no control over the fonts.
In the preview mode the fonts look fine, but when I publish I often end up with 2 or more different fonts on a page.
I tried removing the text, putting it in a simple text file and then paste that in, but no difference….. -

You’re correct. The theme Suburbia is not designed responsively, which means it is only designed for desktop view and will be suboptimal on phones and tablets. If you need a site that works well on smaller screens, here are our responsive themes:

I seem to have no control over the fonts.
The fonts for your theme are set through the Customizer. Can you give me a link to a post where you’re having trouble with them?
-
I forgot to mention, the other option for the your site on smaller screens is the default mobile theme. You can see a few screenshots of the mobile theme here under the second bullet point:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/
You can enable the mobile theme through your dashboard at Appearance > Mobile.
-
Thanks Shawna for the mobile theme suggestion; it worked!
Regarding the font issue: here is one of the pages where I have different fonts, where I want them to have just 1 font http://jewishartsalon.org/about-j-a-s/
Also, can I change the font to lets arial? Or am I bound to Suburbia’s default?
-
Since you have the Premium upgrade, you can change your fonts through the Customizer:
https://jewishartsalon.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php
It looks like you’re currently using the theme’s default fonts right now. You can change these by opening the Fonts panel in the Customizer linked above.
