  Is it truly so that I can’t list my links on a page or a post – only on sidebar/footer widget?

  Are you asking how do I create links in posts and pages? if the answer is yes, then see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

  For embedding links in post and pages this is the general link model:
  <a href="URL HERE">Highlighted anchor text here</a>

  1. In the Visual editor type the relevant descriptive anchor text you want to link to first. Note that “click here” is not a good choice, relevant anchor text matters. ;)

  2. Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text. (If you don’t highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be usable.)

  3. Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.

  Otherwise you can create a blogroll https://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/add-a-blogroll-link/ and display the links in a links widget http://support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/
