Shortcode Page VS Category Archives Link (SEO)
-
Hi all. I’m currently using category links on my menu so readers can click and get everything in that subject. Problem is, the number of posts shown correlates to the amount set in the ‘reader’ settings for my latest posts which I use as my homepage. I have it set for summary on archives and full post for the 3 most recent posts on the homepage. The other disadvantage is it doesn’t post a thumbnail.
I found the shortcode to add to a page to accomplish all of this which is great. However I’m concerned about SEO, in which lies my question.
Would it be hurtful for SEO if I go the shortcode in the page route? I thought I remembered reading somewhere on here a lot of pages isn’t well liked by search engines. But in this case since with the shortcode the otherwise static page would be dynamic, would it work the same way and be just as efficient as just using the category archives as links? Ultimately, what I’m asking is there a difference in the SEO and appeal to search engines between either method?
Hope this was clear! I did a search and didn’t see quite what I was looking for but I’m sorry if I did miss it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your Categories will be indexed by search engines weather you use the categories in a custom menu or not – I have no categories in a menu on my site and the categories are indexed – I do have a category drop down in the sidebar but that is all
You are proposing to add a page with a list of something on it – should not hurt anything

Ah, I didn’t think they indexed anything that wasn’t anywhere on your site. I know it may have sounded like a silly question but I’ve only been blogging since January and I’m only semi-familiar with SEO which I know can be tricky sometimes.
Thanks for the reply.
