Shortcode Recipe Block

It’s the first time I am using the recipe shortcode block from WP and it has been a huge learning experience for me. Not quite the perfect presentation but I’m pleased that it has a print button to use for the reader. It has taken a couple of days of trial and error plus the help of a WP happiness engineer so I’m not totally convinced it is any quicker than just typing it all out in paragraphs??

Very interested to hear if anyone uses this block and if they have any tips and tricks to get the formatting spot on. Thanks!!

    Hi there! 👋🏼

It’s the first time I am using the recipe shortcode block from WP and it has been a huge learning experience for me. Not quite the perfect presentation but I’m pleased that it has a print button to use for the reader. We’re happy to hear that you’ve been exploring the Recipe shortcode!

Although it might be confusing to start using it, it certainly provides a uniform look & feel of the final result across your site!

It’s essential to remember that you don’t explicitly need to use this shortcode if you find it time-consuming or complex.

You are welcome to use the regular blocks to achieve the same (or better!) result — WordPress.com Editor certainly helps to achieve this.

Very interested to hear if anyone uses this block and if they have any tips and tricks to get the formatting spot on. Thanks!!

Here’s an example page with a recipe from our Recipe Shortcode support page created with the shortcode and blocks:

💡 Here’s a link to the code I used for this page: https://pastebin.com/Eqqbryim (you can copy & paste it into your page to see it live on your site).

Using blocks lets you be more creative and organize the recipe layout according to your wishes.

Moving further — if you decide to use blocks to create recipes, you can certainly create a pattern that you can reuse further (so you don’t have to create it from scratch when publishing a new recipe!):

With patterns, you can save a block (or a group of blocks) to use later on any page or post on your site. If you’re repeatedly adding the same block or group of blocks, patterns will save you a lot of time. I hope this helps! 😊
