shorten number of posts on first page
-
HNY all. Best wishes!
I’ve just converted to the Colinear theme and would prefer if the front page only showed 2 or three posts before the “older” tag appears. How can this be done?
Alternatively: Is it possible to convert the front page to a post slider with only excerpts of individual posts appearing?
thanks

Hi dave,
2 or three posts before the “older” tag appears
As long as Infinite Scroll is disabled, the number of posts displayed on the blog page, and on archives pages, is determined by the “Blog pages show at most” setting at Reading Settings. See the Reading Settings support page. To display two or three posts on the blog page, just set the “Blog pages show at most” number at “2” or “3.” However, note that this setting will not only apply to the blog page, but also to the author, category, tag, date (year, month, day) archives pages, all other archives pages, and search results.
Alternatively: Is it possible to convert the front page to a post slider with only excerpts of individual posts appearing?
Not on Colinear, but it might be possible if you choose one of the post slider themes (78 A-Z, 18 free), and set the posts per page at 2 or 3. One potential snag might be that some themes will display featured content posts on the blog page both in the slider and below the slider.

However, this would only be problematic if the posts to be displayed in the slider are very recent posts.
Another potential issue might be presented on themes where the posts displayed in the slider are sticky posts. Sticky posts are not normally counted against the number of posts on the front page, or the first page of the blog page. So a blog page with two sticky posts where the “Blog pages show at most” setting is “3” would display five posts.
I’m not sure if posts displayed in the slider are counted against the posts per page setting in cases where a feature content tag assigns the posts to the slider.

With any theme activated, you may display excerpts on the blog page. Some themes do this by default, and on others you have a choice to display full posts or excerpts. On themes where no post excerpt choice is provided by the theme design, you may use More tags to truncate posts on the blog page. See the More Tag support page.
