Shortlinks don't work

  I’m trying and failing at getting WP to publish images the way I want. i thought I’d found a workaround, text shortlinks, as shown in this post…

  …but even though they’re the shortlinks given to me by the media details page.

  I’m trying to give readers access to the full size jpg or png if they want it, rather than the shrunken image. But I don’t want them bypassing the permalink with the pin/tweet/like buttons. Is that even possible?
