Shortlinks, etc as part of transfer to wordpress.org

    Hello,

I would like to transfer my blog to a wordpress.org site. I have done the transfer (in fact right now it’s almost a mirror wisenapkin.com at wordpress.com and papernapkinwisdom.com at wordpress.org). Now, this weekend, I’d like to point the wisenapkin.com site to Blue Host where papernapkinwisdom.com is parked. WHen I do this, I plan to change the url for the wordpress.org page to be wisenapkin.com – but my question is that will the shortlinks that were created while hosted at wordpress.com still work when the same url is at wordpress.org? I know the permalinks will, but will the shortlinks? How are those mapped?

I can’t find anything on this anywhere in the support documents.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

It depends on how your site was configured when you created your shortlinks, however if your domain was in place then the shortlinks should continue to work just fine as long as you have kept the same permalink structure in place.

To make sure that the links will continue to work OK, you can take a sample of shortlinks to a URL expander such as http://longurl.org/ and expand it to see what it points to. Then make sure that your new site structure matches that pattern which the shortlink points to.

Let me know if you have any questions!
